My Family Doctor clinics have been serving the Houston community for more than 20 years. We consider the coronavirus outbreak a call to action. As physicians, we took an oath to serve our patients and the community notwithstanding the risks to ourselves. We pledge to do whatever we can to help prevent the spread of this terrible disease and will be offering drive-thru coronavirus testing in our parking lots.
Ubiquitous testing is the key to flattening the curve and getting Houston back on track! Accordingly, everyone who wants a COVID-19 test will be able to receive one regardless of symptoms or other risk factors. We also work with local businesses to offer drive-thru COVID-19 testing to their employees to help folks get tested and get back to work when it is safe to do so.
We are one of the few facilities in Houston that offer the Abbott Labs Rapid Test, a high quality molecular point-of-care test that detects active COVID-19 infection and produces results within 13 minutes. Studies have shown that the Abbott rapid test produces results with ≥94.7% positive agreement (sensitivity) and ≥98.6% negative agreement (specificity), with comparable accuracy to lab-based PCR reference tests. We also offer PCR COVID-19 testing at our drive-thru facility in Southwest Houston, which is highly accurate and generally produces results within 72 hours.

My Family Doctor now offers the Abbott Labs COVID-19 Rapid Test, a high quality molecular point-of-care test that detects active COVID-19 infection and produces results within 13 minutes.
This test is available at our COVID-19 Drive Thru in Southwest Houston at 6430 Hillcroft Street and at our Airline Clinic in North Houston at 12036 Airline Drive.

NO WAIT TIMES AND SHORTER TURNAROUND TIME FOR RESULTS
We are pleased to announce that we have increased staff and capacity at COVID-19 Drive Thru. As a result, visitors can be tested within minutes with little to no wait. In addition, our current turn around time for test results is 24-48 hours.
Consider COVID-19 Drive Thru as an alternative to government testing sites to avoid the lines and expedite your testing.

NEW HOURS OF OPERATION STARTING JUNE 1
Please note that COVID-19 Drive Thru will soon be changing its days and hours of operation. Starting June 1, 2020, we will be open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. We will be closed on Wednesdays.
We have changed our hours of operation to earlier in the day to help protect our staff and visitors from the effects of Houston summer temperatures.

We are pleased to report that we can now test EVERYONE at COVID-19 Drive-Thru! Patients visiting the drive thru will be able to receive a COVID-19 test regardless of symptoms or other risk factors. We are testing everyone who wants a test in order to make testing universally available and to help speed up the timeline for Houston's return to normalcy.
We also work with local businesses to offer drive-thru COVID-19 testing to their employees to help folks get back to work if/when it is safe to do so. We accept all major insurance plans with no copay required, and bulk discounts are available for businesses with uninsured workers.

We are pleased to announce that as a result of the new law passed by Congress, patients with insurance will no longer need to pay any copay for their evaluation and screening or for the COVID-19 test.
We recommend that you call ahead to ensure that we accept your insurance BEFORE visiting the testing center. A list of insurance plans we accept can also be found HERE.

WHAT TO BRING
Your driver's license or other photo ID
Your current insurance card (if using insurance)
Something to write on (clipboard, book, etc.)
Hand sanitizer for your personal use (if you have it)
Cash (we will attempt to bill your insurance, but all patients should bring the self pay cost for the test just in case we cannot verify your insurance)
CHARGES & PAYMENT
Your visit will include 2 components. Your evaluation and screening and the COVID-19 test.
For patients with insurance, we will need to verify that we accept your insurance (we accept most major insurance plans). If we do accept your insurance, both the evaluation and the test will be billed to your insurer at no cost to you. A list of the insurance plans we accept can also be found HERE.
For patients without insurance, the cost of the Rapid Test is $130. The cost of the PCR Test is $150. To minimize the spread of infection we will not accept plastic credit cards, and cash is required for all payments. We are not able to offer the test to uninsured patients for free because we are a private medical practice with no government funding or assistance. Unlike government-subsidized testing centers, we receive our test kits from commercial laboratories which charge us for every test we send them for analysis. We have set our self-pay price as low as possible to help cover the cost of supplies, staff, and test kits needed to offer this service.
My Family Doctor - Hillcroft Clinic at 6430 Hillcroft Ave is an outdoor DRIVE THRU Testing Center. The Hillcroft Drive Thru involves the following process:
(CHECK IN) - You will be handed a welcome letter with instructions. If you have insurance, you will need to take a photo of your insurance card and your driver's license and text the photo to a secure email address that our staff will access in order to verify your insurance coverage. Regardless of your insurance coverage, our staff will collect a $25 evaluation and screening charge from you at Station 1. If your insurance coverage is verified, $25 will be returned to you at Station 2. While you wait in your car for the next station, you should fill out the Questionnaire.
(TRIAGE & TESTING) - You will remain in your vehicle while a licensed medical provider reviews your case and may ask you additional questions. You will then receive a COVID-19 test. Patients whose insurance has been verified will receive the test for free. Patients without insurance will be asked to pay any self pay charges before receiving the test. We currently use nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal test swabs (which look like long q-tips) to gather a sample from your nasal cavity or throat. Once the test is administered, you will receive instructions and be asked to self-quarantine until we receive your test results. The Rapid Test can deliver results within 13 minutes. For the PCR Test, your sample will be sent to a a third party laboratory for analysis, with results usually available within 72 hours.

I THOUGHT THIS TEST WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FREE. WHY ARE YOU CHARGING FOR IT?
The test is free at government-sponsored testing centers. A link to free testing locations in your area can be found HERE. Unlike government test centers who receive the test for free, our test kits are supplied by commercial laboratories which charge for the testing. If you have insurance, the test will be performed for free at no cost to you. If you do not have insurance, we charge a competitive price to help cover some, but not nearly all, our costs for supplies, staff, and testing. We are offering this service because we, as a small private medical practice, want to do what we can to increase access to testing.
WHAT IS YOUR CRITERIA FOR WHO RECEIVES THE TEST?
Everyone who wants a test will be able to receive one at COVID-19 Drive Thru. Ubiquitous testing is the key to flattening the curve and getting Houston back on track! Accordingly, everyone visiting our COVID-19 Drive Thru will be tested for the disease regardless of symptoms or other risk factors.
WHY DO YOU ONLY ACCEPT CASH PAYMENTS?
Research has revealed that the coronavirus can live on certain surfaces, including plastic, for up to 72 hours. A link to a news article summarizing this information can be found HERE. To avoid cross contamination among patients who visit the test site, we will not be accepting payment by plastic credit cards passed back and forth among patients and our staff. By contrast, cash can be collected and stored in a lockbox for more than 72 hours before handling to give the virus time to die.
WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY COVID-19 TEST RESULTS?
Patients who receive the Rapid Test will receive their results within 13 minutes. For patients receiving the PCR test, we work with several commercial laboratories who may analyze your sample, including Quest Diagnostics, LabCorp, CPL, and Genesis Labs, which pick up the samples daily and bring them to their laboratories for analysis. Depending upon the the lab to which your sample was sent, your test results should be available within 2 to 3 business days from the date you visited our testing center. During that time, patients who received the test should self-quarantine and avoid contact with others until we receive your results. We will contact you with your test results as soon as we have them. Please remember that once the lab collects your sample from our facility, we have no control over the handling, analysis, or timing of your test result.
Please note that, per CDC recommendations, people who were previously tested or displaying symptoms of COVID-19 may be able to cease self-isolation and leave their home under certain conditions. A link to information about when it is safe to stop self-isolation is available HERE.
